Our capital city played such an important role in Mozart's life: it was here that Mozart found a special understanding for his music. With the first performance of the Abduction from the Seraglio (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) he became a favourite of Prague's citizens and the Marriage of Figaro was a hit with people of all classes. It was from the Nostitz Theatre (today's Estates) that Mozart received the commission for two operas, and in the composition of Don Giovanni the impresario left him a free hand. Mozart was able to create a work that was quite extraordinary in the operatic repertory of that period. The opera won popular favour with the Prague opera-going public from the very beginning whereas it took several more decades for other European opera houses to welcome it as warmly as had Prague in 1787. For the year 2006 the concert programme has been prepared which topically reflects Mozart's relationship to Prague and his ties to Czech musical figures of his time. Exhibition on W. A. Mozart and the DušeksThe permanent exhibition at Bertramka which displays period prints, pictures, scores, musical instruments and other mementos of Mozart's visits to Bertramka and Prague, will be completed by other documents and by a documentary film on Mozart´s stays in Prague.
